CrimeCity Disco proudly present their first release

March 24, 2011

CrimeCity Disco is a small, Berlin based, vinyl-only label with their heart & soul in Malmö,Sweden. The labels’ focus lay in the deep, slow and disco influenced side of house.

We proudly present our first release, a split EP featuring 2 young newcomers, both living in Berlin. On the A-side you find Peter Power
(resident and booker for highly regarded nightspot “Kleine Reise”) who is providing us with a dark, driving house track
containing a heavy kick, hypnotic pads & suggestive percussion.

On the B-side we find a slow-building deep-house cut, with a chunky beat and smooth vocal created by Josef Jaktmark (a Swede who has found his new home in Berlin); perfect for hot summer days and hazy after-hour parties.

The label was born with a vision to create a DIY-feeling, and to find and release music from new talent. We launched in the beginning of 2011 with help from friends and family.

CCD001 has a hand-painted cover made by Simon Persson and is limited to 300 copies.

Paul Ritch’s Quartz Music is back with Portugese mystro Steve Parker

March 24, 2011

Steve Parker hails from the Portugese city of Porto. Having risen through the techno ranks, he has firmly established himself as a leading light in the DJ world. The strength of his productions have seen him signed to leading labels including Weave, Synewave, Dubfire’s SCI+TEC, Umek’s 1605 and DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid.

His productions mirror his own DJ sets, touching on house and techno, all delivered with a trademark drive and explosiveness. His work has already received the remix touch from artists including Alan Fitzpatrick, Kyle Geiger, Xpansul and the Quartz team of Paul Ritch & Okain, and has received huge support from a vast selection of the world’s top names.

Its that same Quartz team that have invited Steve to make his debut on the label. His fantastic double-header of “Get In On” and “Systematic” being the perfect spring tonic to warm us from our winter blues. The A side sees Steve in filtered-house mode. Pulsing synths, rasping hats and funk-driven bassline leading the way. On the B the groove-quota is equally high, with Steve taking a techier path.

With both cuts here dressed to impress. The recent launch of his own Spark Musik label and more high profile releases already lined up. 2011 is looking to be a Steve’s most successful year to date.

Sian’s lead single from forthcoming album

March 24, 2011

With his unique and innovative artist album “Before Silence” set to drop in the Summer, we bring you its excellent lead single from, Sian.

“Purple Bang”, is a powered up donkey punch of bass driven techno. It staggers and builds through a massively stripped down and super tight arrangement, creating muscle-bound heaves on the floor each and every time its played.

Providing the remix talents on this debut single is, Carlo Lio. The man from Toronto is in sparkling form, having laid down huge releases for the likes of SCI &TEC and his own Rawthentic label and of course whipped a frenzy with his remixes of Rainer Weichold’s “Reis” and and Kaiserdisco’s “Jaana”.

Both artists let loose on “Purple Bang”. Big bass and beats, hard risers and flat out steamboat pace. They whip this into a classic peak time ep….and for all you Traktor heads, Sian has included separate tools for mixing.

We welcome Adam Port’s Keinmusik to the Exclusive family

March 24, 2011

Exclusive are extremely happy to welcome Keinmusik to the promo family, with their fantastic new release from label boss, Adam Port!

Adam Port’s last release on Keinemusik went under the name “Chemistry”. Now with this single, it seems heʼs revealing some sort of continual paradigm, or at least an ongoing partiality for the chemical process. Itʼs called “Corrosive Love”.

This love of the corrosive, represents classic Acid-sounds, never before featured on Adam’s releases. Still, this piece is not just a trivial nostalgic tryout. It is more of a reworking of influences, being modelled into Portʼs modern, yet reserved trademark-sound that you will recognize instantly.

The track is growing subtly, in its build-up, but also when it comes to choosing its layout. The most distinct element without doubt are the vocals, sung by fellow producer Ruede Hagelstein. The chilled approach to Soul music, that he carries in his voice, makes them an exceptionally fitting leitmotif. You find Port allowing the repetitive patterns to grow, being accompanied by his variation of an acid line. He pushes expectations with its break, but still avoids an all too explicit and simple peak. Chances are, this is his most characteristic piece of work to date.

The Alex Dolby & Santos-remix on B1 is aiming more for the direct potential as it is for the reflective moments. Still, the vocals are centre of attention, but variation can be found in the percussive layout of the mix. One motive, two congenial approaches – KM009.

Moodmusic celebrate their 100th single release with Martin Dawson

March 24, 2011

To celebrate the 100th single release and 15 successful years in the biz, Sasse’s Moodmusic brings you the first single from the forthcoming Martin Dawson album “Sunday Smoking”.

Having just started releasing under his own name in 2010, ‘Sunday Smoking’ is the release that develops the growing relationship between Martin and Moodmusic.

Martin released his first album ‘Chapters’ as King Roc in 2009 with critical acclaim and the success of this was highlighted with the nomination for best producer and best artist album in DJ mag. Also known as one half of Two Armadillos, you can hear the influence working with Giles has had on Martin’s sound and by the time this LP drops it will have seen a 12 month period with Martin releasing with some the most respected underground labels such as Cocoon, Get Physical, Crosstown Rebels, 2020vision, Kling Klong, Off and of course Moodmusic.

Sunday Smoking was first featured on the Nightstarter 8 compilation in late 2010 and gained great dj-support from the likes of Chymera, Kolombo, Tim Sweeney, Nick Warren and James Teej among others.

Jay Shepheard brings us one of his trademark journeys of deep yet driving beats, shuffling arpeggiated synths and the original bassline, building a solid basement stomper, showing Jays impeccable taste in the fine art of remixing.

Martin ́s own dub takes things more uptempo, bringing Detroit influences and a mean bassline to a peak hour climax.

As an bonus we have The Return, featuring as well as one of the last tracks on the album, a detroit odyssey of finest order. Shuffled 909 and a massive synth build-up takes the dancer on a techy ride of finest order.

Release date: 28/03/11

Moodmusic celebrate 15 Years in the business this year, and label boss Sasse takes time out to chat with Datatransmission…

March 4, 2011

Tell us about the origins of Moodmusic. How did it all come about, and what was the climate in the house music scene when you started?
Well, I started up the label in Finland, in the city of Turku were I was studying in the early ‘90s and there was no scene to talk about. Commercial clubs and a kind of pumping vocal house sound was present, but it was really awful and we were hanging more in indie bars and clubs as the beer was cheaper there. We tried to build up a scene with a small record shop and a few producers and DJs throwing parties. Mostly it was a very limited but dedicated party crowd, so people really went deep into the music instead of just being interested in the next musical hype.. Techno parties happened a few years already, mostly by Tommi Grönlund and Mika Vainio from Sähkö, but the deeper house sound was not really represented so we tried to fill that void.

So one thing led to another, parties, first productions and finally taking the first step to give birth to the label with the help from Marko Laine who was running Mind Records in Turku. Basically we had no clue, but luckily met a few distributors who helped us out and eventually got our first record out in 1996 which happened to be my “Sasse Presents…” EP.

The funny thing is, I went 3 times a week to a record shop and put all my money on records or studio gear – that was my social life back then. There was no clubs to go to, hear new tunes, check the latest shit. It was all in our heads; you had to do it yourself or it was not gonna happen. So being isolated was a big obstacle for us – we knew nothing about clubs in other countries or how other scenes were ticking. So it was all just based on being a sincere fan of the music we bought. Later of course we met like-minded people, but in the early-‘90s Finland was in many ways still an isolated country and it reflects also how people act and work. So me moving to Germany in late-‘90s was a change of location, but the ethics of running the label stayed the same – keep it small and boutique, coming from the heart.
